In 2007, UK based singer songwriter Jamie Woon put out a cover of a song called “Wayfaring Stranger.” He then spent the next four years meticulously writing, recording, and producing his debut album, titled Mirrorwriting, which was just recently released on April 4th. I just heard a few of Jamie's tracks for the first time and I'm really digging them. His sound is a mix of r&b, soul, and hints of dubstep. It's really mellow, sincere music.
This tune is called Lady Luck. Oh man, it just grabs you right from the beginning. Jamie's smooth voice shines here. Check it out.

Today was beautiful. Sun all day, flip flops and shorts; great day for throwing around a frisbee. Got to listen to a few tracks that I really enjoy. Hope you like them.
John West Ft. Pusha T - Lovely
This first one is by John West, an upcoming singer songwriter, and it features Pusha T. It's a real soulful, relaxing tune. Thanks to Camelback Music for showing me this one.
Broken Bells - Sailing To Nowhere
The next tune is by a group called Broken Bells. They're a duo consisting of producer Danger Mouse (half of Gnarls Barkley) and The Shins' guitarist James Mercer. Really chill electronic sound, love the melodies here. The whole album is incredible.
Beach House - Zebra
The name “Beach House” sets a nice summer mood. Awesome harmonies in this one, such a laid back song. Soothing voice, love this one.
CEO - Come With Me
From Swedish producer Erik Berglund, "Come With Me" is a perfect tune for driving with the windows down.

Hotel California. It's a classic. One of those older tunes that even today's kids know all the words to. Many covers have been done of Hotel California, to the point of exhaustion. But this version is a little bit different.
Recorded by the funky, six piece Australian group The Cat Empire, this cover is in French, titled L'Hotel de Californie. A really awesome take on such a familiar song, with The Cat Empire's unique sound.
If you dig this tune and want to learn it the words but don't speak French, you're in luck. Here's a link to the phonetic lyrics.

I love American hip-hop. From Jurassic 5, Macklemore, Blue Scholars, RJD2, oh man I could go on for hours (and probably will in a later post). But there's a lot of good hip hop that comes from outside the States too. This post'll include tastes of Japanese, French, and Australian hip hop. Hope you like these tracks.
Féfé - VPC
French rapper Féfé lays down a really catchy track.
Hocus Pocus - Smile
A cool mix of English and French, -- "Just give me that smile."
Michita - Alleguro
Very chilled instrumental from Japanese producer Michita.
Hilltop Hoods - The Nosebleed Section
From the Australian trio Hilltop Hoods, this song is one of their biggest hits.

After browsing through the Ninja Tune label, which is just chock full of interesting artists, I stumbled across a really interesting song called Cloudlight by Eskmo, (Brendan Angelides). It's got its own distinct, unique electronic sound. Here's a quote from music critic website Textura.com that really describes Eskmo's music well:
“Genre-defying…synth blaze swim in a deep electronic pool…clanking bottom end…. Eskmo feels visionary more often than not.”
The song's video is top notch too. Full of incredible lighting, stunning high definition shots, incredible production, a touch of the northern lights – I don't think I can rave about it any more. Take a look for yourself.

Right now it's raining pretty hard. When it rains like this, I usually like to put on some music that I can just kick back to.
Grisbi - Army of Me
An interesting Bjork cover by the French band Grisbi.
Zero 7 - In The Waiting Line
So chilled, really emotive.
Groove Armada - At The River
Very relaxing, absolutely love this one. Samples "Old Cape Cod"
Common - Be
A classic from Common.

Hey, glad you could make it.
I'm Jesse, a college radio DJ with a strong passion for music. What I'm gonna do hope to do here is show you some music that I think could use a little more love.
This first tune is called Black Water by Timber Timbre. It's got a mix of doo-wop, soul, swampy blues, all that groovy stuff, and it's off their very recently released album, Creep On Creepin' On. What a vibe. Take a listen, hope you enjoy it.
